CABLEONE PINGS RIDICULOUS

Ok, are any of you having problems with cableone? I did a tracert and it goes all around the country. I can not get a ping under 100 to a server in Chicago! WTF. I do not know if upgrading to the 10 meg internet has anything to do with it but that seems like when it got bad. What internet do you guys at the shop use? I googled it and have found other people from Fargo complaining. I can not even play quakelive my lag is so bad. I thought maybe I had dled a virii or some spyware so I reformatted to no avail.

All bandwidth packages have the same routing issues, including our in-store 20meg.

We recently called them to ask about the exact same problem and it apparently they changed this infrastructure completely resulting in this wonky routing.

I sent ya an "official" email about your request. I'll keep ya posted if I hear anything about our routes in that area. I know were still making changes to the network so the in between routes are obliviously taking different paths than they did before. I can't say any of the changes we have made have cause this alteration in routing. Sadly at my level we don't have the information to track down routing issues outside of our own network.

It is bullshit. I did the tracert on my buddies computer, he lives out by Discovery school in South Fargo and it routed completely the right way. This makes me angry. I really do not want to go with DSL but that looks like where I may be headed...or I am going to move to a place that has MIDCO.

I'd say Midco. I've got Qwest DSL at home and the pings are complete garbage (110+ locally) due to the number of hops within their MAN before it hits the backbone. MIDCO needs to kick CableOne's butt out of Fargo. I know everywhere in the FM area besides Fargo Metro will carry MIDCO, including West Fargo. That's your best bet. I have several college friends that go through them and they always brag about 50mbps, no bandwidth caps or throttling during peak hours. SOOO much jealousy.

This problem has been going on for about two months. Cableone's contract apparently does not guarantee a certain latency, or even bandwidth exceeding 768kbps, no matter what plan you have. Isn't that...blatant fraud?

I'd like to see your friend's correctly routed traffic's traceroutes if possible. I could use it as evidence when I speak with the senior techs @ cableone.

I do not know what happened... I do not know if my email complaining to cableone worked even though they claim they have nothing to do with it but it is routing correctly now. I am getting pings of under 50 on quakelive. yeS~!

There are unnessecary hops before the main part but it is no longer going to Seattle then Colorado before Chicago.

Cableone's exclusivity contract is soon to b up in fargo, which should allow for midco to phase in, unless the city cuts a deal with cableone. Right now I pay the same price for 25 mbit my family pays for 6 in fargo.
